‍    Every now and then I have someone reach out and ask if I’d be willing to “edit” their work, since they’re not the best with commas and whatnot. The answer is usually yes! This is something I do for a little extra money when I’m not teaching college students how to write.

‍    I charge a very reasonable rate, which you and I will agree on ahead of time, and I can give you just the style of service you want:

Grammar and clarity comments only—for those who want no writing craft suggestions—just proofreading.

Grammar, clarity, and comments on your content—for those who’d also like writing craft feedback (plot, characterization), which they can, of course, take or leave as they please.

What is a “very reasonable rate”? About half of what I’ve found others charging elsewhere. I’m not made of money and probably you aren’t either!

“I enjoyed working with Susan. Her edits are always thoughtful, thorough, and clear. She has a gift for seeing big picture issues, as well as significant details, such as how to draw readers into a specific scene. I'm so grateful that my memoir was enhanced with Susan's expertise.“

—Cindy Kolbe, author of Struggling with Serendipity

More recently, I helped Pamela Palmer with her book, Living a Deeper Faith. What a nice read it was! I think I was honestly helped and inspired as much as her readers will be. Pamela writes in such a natural, understanding voice, and I was pleased to help her put the finishing touches on her already well-organized manuscript.
